Hi, Yeah i am noticing that where i work. It is good to have the enthusiasm of the youngies, yet unfotunately they sometimes dont have the levels of maturity that we need in our salon. Our younger staff become distracted easily and need that supervision to constantly keep them going. We are finding that our apprentices tend to leave us soon after finishing, often to go and travel. We have had our last two apprentices do this even though they are offered good job security decent pay and are looked after well. If anyone has any ideas as to how to retain staff then please tell me.

something to come back to I thinks its hard to hold on to staff because when most apprentices qualify, they are at the right age to travel, they want to see the world and move around a bit. Maybe just letting them know they are welcome back when they're done with travelling is a good start. Otherwise, no idea! I guess it is one of those industries where its easy to move around coz there seem to be jobs everywhere.

Good point, stella, its a natural thing to want to explore!!!! But there is no place like home! My staff that I have trained with me will always be welcomb back. So trace you just have to keep the evolution alive and keep hiring apprentices to keep on moving through.
