Exclamation Headlice At Smartstyle

I was employed at Smartstyle/Magicuts. I was told that if someone came into the shop with headlice I was required to do their hair regardless. I now have headlice and I felt really bad about doing people's hair knowing that they could be contaminated. I was afraid of losing my job so I kept quiet. Finally I left that awful environment. I did contact the Health Unit and they told me that I was not the first to call about that shop. I wonder why the Health Unit hasn't stepped up to the job of closing these chop shops down for ther lack of proper hygiene.

Un fortunatly the govening factor regarding turning away clients with head lice has changed it is now the stylist's call on weather to service a client with lice. The thing is health dept cant do anything, believe it or not lice only live in clean washed hair, as they cant attatch eggs to oily hair........Whilst they are anoying and embarrassing its just luck of the draw on weather you pick them up, us with children that go to school will tell you your child can go to school in the morning clear and come home in the afternoon infested. I know my daughter has come home 5 times this year with them and one of my sons who goes to the same school and has same friends hasn't had them, there not to hard to treat as long as you repeat it 7 - 14 - 21 day's

they dont discriminate at all on clean or dirty.. unless we are talking so dirty you can smell it a mile off...

its well feral all the same for someone to force you to do lice infected hair.. i would refuse.. laws on firing star now are much more on the side of the employee then the employer..
in a lot of cases that factor is a ***** but in terms of hygiene if you refused and they fired you & you took it further you would win 100 times over!

I do not condone the behavior of your x employe, I think it is a bit unfair that you are told to go ahead on head lice clients and now you have them.

In our salon we are very quiet and discreet regarding head lice, after all generally you find them in kids, this can be a very touchy subject with kids and the last thing you want to do is make them feel dirty or bad! We are very respectful for the client and parent, it can be a very embarrassing situation. We do not cut clients with head lice, BUT it can be hard to send them away once you have gotten half way through the cut and then found them! (me personally would finish the cut and follow all the correct procedures, even wash my own hair with lice stuff) I would not expect my staff to ever cut head lice clients, BUT I will not have clients embarrassed or made to feel dirty by staff, NOT EVA!
We have had 5 cases in 5 years.

I know how you feel, personaly we dont do clients if early detection is found, but if they are half way through a cut it has to be finished but luckily we have only had one child and one adult with them this year ............ But it is impossible to stop school age kids contracting them through contact with other kids, it's just something that has to be addressed simpatheticaly in salon.

You should always finish the cut if you find them and you've already started... i always have a quick search before i start school aged kids hair...

I personally haven't seen any for 2.5 years but a mother came in the other day with a lot of them!! meep!
