the other day our directors made all the apprentices participate in a little exercise.... we were given the cheapest foulest shampoo some homebrand styling products and some hairdryers right out of the 70's and asked to shampoo and style our hair as per normal using these low range products, i can asure you that it was no fun at all and will from now on recommend professional products to every single client who does not already use them when they say "it always looks better when you do it" ...i wonder why?

I was in charge of organizing the training session with todd and 5 other staff members. The idea came from Kelly from Cranium salon, manley, sydney.
In our salon we have tried many times to stress the important need to look after our clients hair at home. We educate, we offer financial incentives to staff, we offer incentive competitions, we train and train on consultation and recommendation and we have staff meetings till we are blue in the face to no avail all trying to educate our staff to educate our clients on hair maintenance, leading to retail sales.
It worked a treat and my staff since have taken very seriously the message on educating our client.
It was also the funniest day of my life as a salon owner! The shrieking, yelling and screaming as I pored home brand mouse into the hands of my staff was priceless, not to mention the 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner!
Im sure retail sales will be up this week.
Try this, it is heaps of fun!
Not sure todd agree on that(he he he)

having a competition and incentive is a great idea.

When i was a first year my boss had a comp the first apprentice to sell 750 dollars worth of retail (excluding electricals) won a 300 dollar CHI iron and 1 of each chi product 32 in total and a ionic blowdryer and brushes.

So the boss isnt out of pocket try contacting the colour company to let them know your idea you never know they might donate the prize

all in all i won thgis challenge but the recomendation has sayed and i do it every day now

Hi BeBeBelle
It's good to see you used Kelly from Cranium as your referance, Kelly is a friend of my wifes she was also my wifes first senior she worked under at Herrium owned by Bill Hindmarsh who is now the GM of Goldwell Aust, both these people are leaders in business and this industry, and a lot can be learnt from them.

We recently did that in our salon as well. I'm already heard about it so my boss begged me to keep quiet about it so I wouldn't spoil it for the others girls, LOL.

Taft styling products and 2 in 1 shamp/cond.

Eeeeeewwww! My hair felt like a barbies.

it was such a good exercise to do, it really opened our eyes to the products we used.
the funniest thing was seeing todd, our apprentices, and watching the tears in his eyes as he was doing his hair...
poor baby
hehehe
