| As most of us know, the IHS hair comps are coming up in a couple of weeks. i feel somewhat intimidated now that I've realized how difficult and complex manipulating hair can be. I thought my design would have been easy. but i have come across 2 parts of the doo I'm having real difficulty with:

-Using curling irons!! i have like. 8 burns on my hands after using these things, and their just frustrating me to death. to be honest i gave up after 30 minutes of using these things at home and finished my curls with my GHD. I'm not sure if this matters too much. to me, curls are curls. but I'm guessing theres a difference.

-Creating the whole bee hive look. teasing makes me sick, i tried sculpting the teased mess into a ball shape to act as the core to my hive, but no matter what i did it just looked like a gross mess. And i just cant quite get the outside layer right. (my poor mannequin is suffering from the slightest bit of alopecia, which i have heard is common in mannequins) my work just looks RUBBISH! and i also suck at using pins. i have no idea at all.
oh, and i found out the model I'm using is a makeup artist and hairstylist. so I'm almost too embarrassed to practice on her, for fear that she'll pull me up on stuff i do wrong. (minor problem, I'm sure I'll get over this.)
So is this something I'm just going to get good at with practice and experience? (both i have a mad lack of) or are there any tricks?

totally driven by a fear of failure at the moment. is that a good thing? Last edited by PeteyDeco : 01-07-2008 at 12:04 AM. |

| Maybe you should ask your nearest hairdressing champion for help ![]() But seriously - the hardest thing to get when you first start out at dressing hair is not to be scared of the stuff. It won't bite you or scream especially when working on a mannequin head. The trick is to see the style as a combination of simple, easy to digest, steps in construction. One step and the the next and so on. If you try to do the whole lot all at once you'll become overwhelmed and drown in confusion. As for tongs and root tonging - take your burns and keep practicing!
