Whats in ur pipes?

ey guys,
had a crazy client cum in the other day with green hair, yes green hair.the catch is she had no colour in there except some really old foils, apart from that all natural. she went on to tell me she lived in a really old house(bout 100yrs old) and still had original water pipes, she had had the green cum and go for about 8 months and had final had enough.
so being a lil confused on what to do i consulted our salons colour expert on how to fix the green hair, after saying that there was old foils in there she advised to do test strands (lucky!!!!!)
first colour strand i did was with platinum pink (in l'Oreal) and 20vol after bout 2 mins the green had lifted, after bout 5-7 mins it was completely jelly, total destroy!so no go with lightener.
second test strand was with richesse 6.24(in L'Oreal) straight after putting it on the hair it garbed, after bout 5-7 mins it was again total jelly, 9mins destroyed!
Scary stuff, told her that she had a mineral build up and would have to brow out what was there, and should have her water tested just to see.
is that what you guys think it was?iv never seen anything like it

well thank god for the test strand. I hav never seen that happen before. After only a few minutes, complete jelly hair. It was very interesting to see though, and a goos lesson learnt. If in any doubt, go the test strand.

It could have been caused by the copper sulphate build up in the old copper pipes of the house, did you try a deap clean shampoo to see if it removed any of the colour?

old houses are really bad for having copper pipes which turn the hair green. Well done for strand testing..mineral buildup is scary stuff..a trick i know-actually 2 tricks you can apply olive oil to dry hair-put under a dryer for 10 mins then shampoo with a clarifying shampoo-repeat then condition- try another test strand. This is meant to remove the minerals. I have also heard of bi-card soda mixed with shampoo and lathered for several mins..good luck

I have had experience with olive oil on the hair. We used it about 8 years ago to remove pink fudge out of a clients hair! For the life of me I can't remember if it worked! Think, Think, Think!!!
I will try it again!
Good tip!

In my experience of green build up on hair from chlorine stained hair Tomato soup works to get it out or a good deep clean followed by a silver shampoo.

One of our clients returned home from a 6 week holiday in Germany with brittle green hair from their water, i assume this would also be due to the old plumbing they have.
My boss Shampooed the hair & applied a Redken chemistry treatment to the hair, left under an EM. she then went back through & colour corrected. No melting on her hair but it took along time to get back in good health!

Egypt also has terrible water. A client returned with zero colour in her hair as it had all washed out & so brittle & stiff you could nearly snap it like a twig!!!!

scary ****!
